Most people have heard of The Lamaze Six Health Birth Practices but what are they, exactly?
The Lamaze Six Healthy Birth Practices provide evidenced-based recommendations known to produce positive outcomes.

While never a substitute for medical care, the Six Healthy Birth Practices can help you to clarify your birth preferences, explain your options, help you cope with labor, jump-start important conversations with your provider and partner, and much more.
Lamaze Six Healthy Birth Practices
Let Labor Start on Its Own
Focus on you, your body and your baby, not the clock. Unless there are medical complications, it's best to let labor start when all the players— you, your body and your baby are ready.
Avoid
Interventions
Avoid interventions that are not medically necessary. It's never too early to discuss interventions with your provider. Ask your provider to explain interventions so you can make informed decisions about your care.
Movement
Walk, move around, and change positions throughout labor. Movement relaxes the muscles, can help you cope with pain, and provides comfort.

Avoid Giving Birth
on Your Back
Avoid giving birth on your back. Being upright uses gravity to help bring the baby down.
Bring Support
Bring a loved one, friend, or doula for continuous support.
We humans do better when we’re surrounded by people we know and trust, people who motivate and encourage us.
Keep Mom &
Baby Together
Skin-to-skin promotes bonding, breastfeeding, and security. If the baby is healthy, any care that needs to be done immediately after birth can be done with your baby skin-to-skin on your chest.
When is the Best Time to Sign Up for a Childbirth Class?
The best time to take a childbirth class is during your second or third trimester, ideally around weeks 30–34
This allows you to:
-
Learn and practice techniques when your energy levels are likely higher, and you're less likely to be experiencing significant discomfort.
-
The information will be fresh in your mind when you need it most.
-
Have time to practice and review the information. This will help you feel more confident and prepared when labor begins.
I don't need a childbirth class.
I can learn everything on the internet, right?
Well, not really.

You need to take a childbirth class because you are unique.
The information on the Internet is generic and intended for millions of viewers, not you.
